About
BeaverTail is a place where people from all over the world can post news. We are currently in beta testing.
All news will show up on the world map. That means events that happen in Bamako or Oruro share the same stage as New York and London. We really hope that this site can help peoples in less seen parts of the world get heard as much as those in the Western world. The verify and refute feature is so that others can add context to the story. We hope this allows for a more well rounded view.
The creators were (and still are) tired of sensational news that only tells half the story. They were tired of having to scroll through comments and find other sources to get the full story. This website was created so that users can collaborate in sourcing as much relevant material to the news as possible. We also wanted to know about what was happening outside our province and country. Unless a main news channels decides to cover a story, many important stories are unheard.
What’s with the weird name? Beavers have a long history in Canada and are a national symbol. When a beaver senses danger, it will slap its tail on the water to warn other beavers. We thought that would be an apt name for a Canadian news site. During the planning of the site, it was quickly realized that we could encompass all world news, and not just Canadian. The domain was already registered and we liked the name, so we just stuck with it. :B
While everyone should be informed, it’s not healthy to continually be focused on news. We’re trying to design the site so that people can find their information as quickly and neatly as possible so they can go about their day doing other things. We want to focus on the facts, not the sensationalism.
The site is self funded. Please bear with us as we are currently in beta testing and making updates and adding new features. There are lots of big ideas and features planned! If you decide to make an account, you can post in the forum saying hi or letting us know of a bug or give feedback. Regardless if you want to participate or just browse, we really hope you stay with us!
